NE Winther Road and Kallgren Road NE

Current project phase: Design

Project Manager: Ayla Siler

Project overview

As part of an ongoing effort to improve electric safety and reliability on Bainbridge Island, we’re making upgrades to the electric system along sections of NE Winther Road and Kallgren Road NE (see project map on this page).

On NE Winther Road, we are replacing aging utility poles and existing electric wire with three-phase tree wire. Tree wire is a specially coated, overhead wire that’s designed to prevent an electric short (and subsequent outage) when a tree limb falls into a power line. By installing tree wire in other locations in PSE’s service area, we’ve reduced power outages caused by falling limbs by up to 95%. On Kallgren Road NE, we are replacing aging utility poles and overhead electrical wire.

Preliminary work for the project began in 2022. Construction is expected to occur in 2026. We will keep the community informed as the project progresses.

Quick Facts

  • Replace aging utility poles
  • Replace overhead wire on Kallgren Rd. NE
  • Replace overhead wire with tree wire on NE Winther Rd.
