Crystal Springs Drive NE and Point White Drive NE

Current project phase: Permitting

Project Manager: Artemia Settle

Project overview

As part of an ongoing effort to improve electric safety and reliability on Bainbridge Island, we’re making upgrades to the electric system along a section of Point White Drive NE and Crystal Spring Drive NE (see project map on this page).

On Point White Drive NE, we will replace the existing electric wire with tree wire, where feasible. Tree wire is a specially coated, overhead wire that’s designed to prevent an electric short (and subsequent outage) when a tree limb falls into a power line. By installing tree wire in other locations in PSE’s service area, we’ve reduced power outages caused by falling limbs by up to 95%.

Along Crystal Springs Drive NE, we will place a section of overhead electric underground due to the current position of the utility poles. The existing poles are located along the shoreline and are either in or near the high-tide mark, putting the poles in jeopardy of being in the water. After studying the situation, PSE determined that undergrounding the wire is the best and most prudent option.

These upgrades will improve the electric system’s safety and reliability and reduce risk of power outages.

Currently, the project is in the permitting phase. At this time, we anticipate construction to occur in 2027-2028, pending the progress of permitting. We will keep the community informed as the project progresses.

Quick Facts

  • Relocate two sections of overhead wire underground
  • Replace overhead wire with tree wire
  • Will reduce likelihood of tree-related outages
