West Sound Wildlife Shelter Expands Community Impact

The West Sound Wildlife Shelter is winding down from a busy summer season, during which staff and volunteers cared for hundreds of infant and juvenile patients and participated in several community education events across the region. Each effort reflects the mission to protect, heal, and inspire through wildlife rehabilitation and education.

This fall marks the first anniversary of Wild Bird Mercantile, a resale store dedicated to supporting the shelter’s mission of wildlife rehabilitation and conservation. Located in the Rolling Bay community of Bainbridge Island, the shop has quickly become a local favorite, offering unique treasures ranging from vintage finds and gently used décor to thoughtful gifts. The best part is every purchase helps provide care for injured and orphaned wildlife.

Wild Bird Mercantile and West Sound Wildlife Shelter also co-hosted the first Summer Flea Market featuring Raptor Rhapsody in August along with Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers and supporters. The event was such a success that a Holiday Flea Market is already planned for November 15, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

In addition, West Sound Wildlife Shelter is preparing for its 21st Annual Call to the Wild Gala Auction at Kiana Lodge on Saturday, October 11. This inspiring evening of exclusive auction items, art, lively entertainment, and celebration of wildlife rehabilitation helps raise the vital funds needed to continue the shelter’s impactful work.

To visit the store, hours are Wednesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at 11042 Sunrise Drive NE — across the street from Bay Hay & Feed, behind Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. Or visit online at: westsoundwildlife.org/mercantile.
