Stand for Grand Forest: Bainbridge Island Land Trust launches campaign to protect 39 acres in the Grand Forest East

The Bainbridge Island Land Trust (BILT), with the support of the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, is leading the effort to ensure that nearly 40 acres of beloved forest and trails enjoyed as part of the Grand Forest East remains open to the community.

Owned by the Bainbridge Island School District (BISD), this land has long been regarded as part of the Island’s park, trail and nature preserve network.

The organizations have launched a campaign to raise funds to protect this property, enabling the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District to own and manage this land. BISD intends to complete the sale this spring.

This property sits at the heart of a major wildlife corridor, a vital network of conserved lands—nearly 580 contiguous acres—and a popular system of multi-use trails. As one of the last remaining undeveloped and unprotected parcels of its size on the Island, this land holds significant conservation value for forest core, wildlife habitat, and climate resilience.

The community can help protect this vital habitat by joining the Stand for the Grand Forest Campaign. To learn more or contribute today, visit bit.ly/grand-forest
