Puget Sound Energy Foundation: Empowering community resiliency

In 2006, Puget Energy, the parent company of Puget Sound Energy, created and funded the PSE Foundation, a separate nonprofit entity. The PSE Foundation makes charitable contributions to qualifying 501(c)3 organizations which help support a broad range of community interests where PSE serves its customers and has facilities. PSE Foundation assets and resources originate from the founding organization and will never come from PSE customers.

Since its inception, the PSE Foundation has approved over $15M in local charitable grants. These contributions have focused on community-based initiatives related to:

  • Preparing communities to respond and recover from natural disasters
  • Environmental protection
  • Human Services with emphasis on food security, housing support, and basic needs
  • STEM Education

The PSE Foundation also proudly matches charitable contributions and volunteer hours donated by current employees and retirees of PSE. Among the Foundation’s completed initiatives are:

  • A “Powerful Scholars” scholarship at each of Washington’s 34 accredited Community and Technical Colleges and the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship, supporting 70 students annually
  • A $1M safety program, outfitting 18 regional emergency shelters and food distribution centers, each with an industrial generator
  • A $1M environmental program to protect critical watershed and greenway areas
  • A $1.4M pandemic-relief effort to fund urgent needs in communities to meet new demands related to health and safety.
  • A $2.6M – three-fold increase to help local communities respond, get relief, and recover from the ongoing impacts of the pandemic, supporting food security, mental health, emergency preparedness, securing shelter, literacy, and other essential needs and services.
