PSE partners with Electric Era to demonstrate battery-backed EV fast charging technology

PSE installed a new four-port electric vehicle charging station that uses fast-charging technology at our Kent facility. We're partnering with Seattle-based Electric Era to demonstrate how battery-backed Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) can deliver optimized performance while reducing strain on the electrical grid. Unlike traditional charging stations, Electric Era’s incorporates a signature battery energy storage system (BESS) with 125/220 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of capacity. Combined with energy management software, the solution enables the chargers to deliver power above grid limits while intelligently managing demand and energy consumption. 
 
Additionally, these charging stations offer many advantages over traditional fast charging installations:  

• Six-month deployment versus a 12-month deployment for a traditional charger 
• Reduced infrastructure costs 
• Enhanced capacity
• Substantial grid benefits
