The Lost Valley Trail

The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation will complete a landmark recreational trail this summer, the Lost Valley Trail.

Lost Valley Trail will cross 33 acres of public open space, with connections to several neighborhoods along the way. A milestone 50th mile in the island’s public trails, Lost Valley will be the final link in a walkable route from the Winslow Ferry Terminal and downtown Bainbridge Island to the 445-acre Gazzam Lake Nature Preserve.

The mile-long trail will include nearly 200 linear feet of raised boardwalk, to protect the sensitive Cooper Creek watershed and its salmon-bearing stream. While currently used as an informal “social trail,” the Lost Valley Trail boardwalk must be completed before it can be officially opened this fall.

Lost Valley Trail planning dates to the 2001 Open Space Bond, when Bainbridge Island voters overwhelmingly approved the purchase of land and easements to make the trail possible. The Parks & Trails Foundation has worked with partners and private landowners to secure additional easements to complete the route.
