Learn about electric vehicles, fuel savings and charging

It seems like now is a good time to consider potential fuel savings when switching from a gas-powered to electric vehicle.

Using our handy Electric Vehicle Guide – as well as the average price of gas ($5.99 per gallon in King County) and PSE electricity ($0.15 per kWh) in early May – we calculated how much someone who drives 27 miles per day (the average for Washington drivers in 2025) could save on fuel if they traded their 2026 Hyundai Tucson for an all-electric 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5. It turns out: quite a bit. 
 
A Tucson driver would pay $2,102 for a year of gas while it would only cost $434 to power the Ioniq for a year. That’s a $1,668 annual savings on fuel alone, to say nothing of savings on things like oil changes and other maintenance.
