Helpline House adds EV charging stations to support community and sustainability goals

For nearly 60 years, Helpline House has been a cornerstone of support for Bainbridge Island residents, providing essential services and resources to help community members thrive. Now, the nonprofit is expanding what it offers with the addition of new electric vehicle charging stations on its campus.

Through a partnership with Puget Sound Energy's Up & Go Electric for Workplace program, Helpline House recently installed four Level 2 EV charging ports available to employees, volunteers and visitors accessing services at the organization. The chargers became operational on Oct. 1.

The project was made possible through a $40,000 grant from PSE, which covered the installation costs and helped advance Helpline House's sustainability goals while expanding access to EV charging on Bainbridge Island.

"As more people consider switching to electric vehicles, access to convenient charging is an important part of the transition," said PSE Director of Customer Energy Innovation John Mannetti. "Having chargers available at work gives employees confidence they'll have the charge they need for their daily commute while helping reduce transportation-related emissions."

The new charging stations create an additional community amenity at a location dedicated to serving residents. For many EV drivers, access to charging while working, volunteering, or running errands can make electric transportation more practical and convenient.

Founded in 1968, Helpline House provides a wide range of social services and programs designed to support Bainbridge Island individuals and families. The addition of EV charging reflects the organization's commitment to meeting community needs while embracing opportunities to reduce its environmental footprint.

PSE and Helpline House are also exploring future opportunities to support the nonprofit's clean energy objectives and continue building a more sustainable energy future for the community.
