Construction at Murden Cove substation continues
To improve electric reliability for Bainbridge Island customers, PSE is making upgrades at Murden Cove Substation. We are replacing aging equipment and installing a new control house and other equipment, including a second transformer, to provide electric capacity to meet our customers’ current and future energy needs. These upgrades will also support the new Murden Cove — Winslow 115 kV “missing link” transmission line.
Our crews have made great progress since we started construction in June. They have trimmed and removed some vegetation around the perimeter of the substation, started installing drainage, and started removing foundations. We anticipate work at Murden Cove Substation to continue through the fall. We will complete a portion of the upgrades this year and will return in spring 2026 to finish them.
You can expect occasional traffic delays as we bring in and remove equipment at the substation. You can also expect some noise from trucks and heavy machinery during work hours, which are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. During this work, we will continue to provide safe, reliable power and minimize community impacts as much as possible.
We will continue to keep the community informed of our progress. Thank you for your patience during construction!
