To provide safe and reliable power, we are improving the electric system on Bainbridge Island this summer and over the next several years. Currently, crews are replacing aging equipment at the Port Madison Substation, trimming trees along transmission lines that serve the island, and upgrading the electric system along NE Hidden Cove Road and NE Baker Hill Road. In addition, we will make some improvements in other areas and will notify impacted customers of any planned power outages to do this work safely. We will minimize community impacts as much as possible. Thank you for your patience!
Hybrid solution will provide safe, dependable energy for years to come
In the coming years, we will continue to upgrade our infrastructure. We will also use new technologies to meet your energy needs during the coldest and hottest days of the year. With this Bainbridge Island hybrid solution, we will:
- build a new 115 kV transmission line to connect the Murden Cove and Winslow substations to complete the transmission loop
- rebuild the existing 115 kV transmission line between Port Madison and Winslow substations
- upgrade all three substations
- install a battery energy storage system at the Murden Cove Substation; and
- provide incentives for residents and businesses to reduce their energy use
Most of our infrastructure projects are in the design and permitting phase. We plan to build these projects in the next two to five years. We will keep you informed of our progress and will mail a newsletter about all the projects in the Bainbridge Island hybrid solution this fall.
