Upgrading our electric distribution system on Bainbridge Island

This summer we made upgrades to our electric distribution system along NE Baker Hill Road and NE Hidden Cove Road. These projects are a part of our ongoing effort to improve safety and reliability on Bainbridge Island.

NE Baker Hill Road
On NE Baker Hill Road between Lynwood Center Road and Blakey Avenue (see project area here), we replaced 0.36 miles of electric wire with tree wire. Tree wire is a specially coated, overhead wire that’s designed to prevent an electric short (and subsequent outage) when a tree limb falls into a power line. By installing tree wire in other locations in PSE’s service area, we’ve reduced power outages caused by falling limbs by up to 95%.

We completed this work on the NE Baker Hill Road project in August.

NE Hidden Cove Road
On NE Hidden Cove Road between Komedal Road and Phelps Road (see project area here), we are replacing aging utility poles, replacing existing electric wire with tree wire, and installing a new section of underground cable. These improvements will increase reliability and allow crews to restore power more quickly during outages. Construction on this project began in May and is expected to be wrapped up in November 2023, weather permitting.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve your electric service reliability!
