Celebration of Philanthropy

The Celebration of Philanthropy was hosted by the Kitsap Community Foundation (KCF) on May 11. This great evening celebrates individuals, businesses and nonprofits in Kitsap County that have improved the lives of their fellow citizens through extraordinary dedication to philanthropy. PSE is proud to sponsor the Business Making a Difference award.

This award honors a for-profit business in Kitsap County that has a proven track record of making a positive difference in our community. Andy Wappler, vice president of Customer Operations & Communications presented this year’s award to Lisa Stirrett of the Glass Art Studio. Lisa and the Studio have over the years helped dozens of nonprofits by hosting art walks where a portion of the proceeds go to local nonprofits, donated tens of thousands of dollars of in-kind goods and provided spaces for local nonprofits to meet and fundraise. The studio helped women all over the world through a micro-lending program and much more.

The other recipients of these annual awards are Roxanne Bryson receiving the Exceptional Nonprofit Service award and Tim and Bev Ryan, receiving the Spirit of Philanthropy award.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Debbie Macomber. Debbie is a #1 New York Times bestselling author, Kitsap resident and strong believer in community and charity. The KCF also honored grant and scholarship recipients and showcased some nonprofits in the community. This year the theme was the environment, which focused on nonprofits that preserve and maintain the environmental health of the county.

Kitsap Great Give - April 24

This year, PSE sponsored the Kitsap Community Foundation’s Kitsap Great Give, where as of May 17 over 5,000 donors raised more than $1.4 million dollars for nonprofits based in or serving Kitsap and/or North Mason counties. These dollars will change lives in the community. As of last year, nonprofits participating in the Kitsap Great Give have touched the lives of community members in a positive way over one million times.

The Kitsap Great Give is an annual day of giving during which anyone, anywhere can go to kitsapgreatgive.org and donate as much as they want to as many registered nonprofits as they want in a single transaction. All the nonprofits registered are 501(c)(3) charities.
