Fall is an exciting time on Bainbridge Island with lots to do, and we have been involved with several events this season with more to come. These events are led by some great Bainbridge Island organizations.
Trick-or-Treat downtown on Halloween!
PSE is a proud sponsor of this year's Bainbridge Downtown Association Trick-or-Treat event. Today, Winslow Way is open to pedestrian traffic only between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for trick-or-treaters to stop by downtown shops in their costumes. Trick-or-treaters can also grab some cider at the Cook Family Funeral Home Annual Haunted Apple Juice booth, and listen to spooky music. For more details, visit the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association website.
Grand Ole Fourth poster contest ends October 31
The Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce is holding a poster contest for students in all Bainbridge schools to participate in the creation of a poster to celebrate the 50th year the Chamber has hosted the Grand Ole Fourth event. PSE is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship for the winner of the contest. A panel of judges will pick the winning entry, and the winner will receive a scholarship to any institution of higher learning. All entries must be received by the Chamber of Commerce by October 31, and a winner will be announced by December 1. For more information about the contest, visit the Chamber of Commerce website.
West Sound Wildlife Shelter PSE Volunteer Day
On September 15, a group of PSE volunteers with Team PSE worked at West Sound Wildlife Shelter (WSWS) to help prepare the grounds for fall. Team PSE was happy to help their new Powerful Partner with weeding, gardening and pruning at various locations around the shelter. After their work, Team PSE stayed for a Wildlie Education Program, featuring an appearance from educational Animal Ambassadors including Cedar, the Red-tailed Hawk!
To learn more about the work of WSWS and ways you can volunteer, visit the West Sound Wildlife Shelter website.
Kids Discovery Museum's Hazard Hamlet
On October 21, PSE partnered with the Kids Discovery Museum (KiDiMu) to present Hazard Hamlet, a teaching aid designed to help kids and adults learn important electrical safety habits. Participants in Hazard Hamlet view an electrical display of a miniature town to explore ways they could respond to potential electric hazards shown on the display. Hazard Hamlet was featured at KiDiMu as part of the Our Town exhibit and event series to provide kids with safety and emergency preparedness information.
Bloedel Reserve's Super Squash Scavenger Hunt
Throughout the month of October, the Bloedel Reserve is hosting a scavenger hunt for some super squashes. Children who visit the reserve are given a special map to help find hidden squashes around the grounds. PSE is a proud supporter of the Super Squash Scavenger Hunt, and we hope to see you there!
Bainbridge Youth Services
Fall Breakfast fundraiser a success
On October 25, PSE and the Bainbridge community supported the 35th annual Fall Breakfast fundraiser for Bainbridge Youth Services (BYS). Event Participants heard from BYS counselors and experts on issues teens face. The year’s featured speaker was Cezanne Allen, MD, who provided tips on how we can better navigate stressful times.
