Housing Resources Bainbridge (HRB) will hold its annual fundraiser, A Beautiful Neighborhood, on Thursday, September 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Deborah Finck, executive director and founder of Building OHANA, will deliver the keynote address. Building OHANA is a nonprofit located outside of Spokane, creating a community for people with intellectual disabilities and their families, older adults, and people of all incomes and ages who seek social purpose and connection through intentional neighboring.
“At HRB, we select residents for our affordable homes based on income qualifications only,” notes HRB Executive Director Phedra Elliott, “but like Deborah Finck and her colleagues at OHANA, we are intentional and insistent about inclusion and equity.”
As a community land trust, HRB conserves land for permanently affordable housing, removing it from the profit-driven market and using it for the long-term benefit of the community. HRB has 134 homes, for rent and ownership, with another 62 in the pipeline. HRB’s affordable rents are set by their government funders. Their homes for ownership are kept affordable with resale restrictions, which ensure that they remain affordable to future buyers while still allowing the seller to build equity.
Join HRB for its most important fundraising event of the year, and help create and sustain permanently affordable housing on Bainbridge Island.
