As part of an ongoing effort to improve electric safety and reliability on Bainbridge Island, we are replacing two miles of electric wire with tree wire, replacing dozens of aging utility poles and upgrading electric equipment on NE High School Road between Fletcher Bay Road NE and Grow Avenue NE (see project map below).
Tree wire is a specially coated, overhead wire that’s designed to prevent an electric short (and subsequent outage) when a tree limb falls into a power line. By installing tree wire in other locations in PSE’s service area, we’ve reduced power outages caused by falling limbs by up to 95%.
We began preliminary work on this project in December 2020. Because this project is connected to the Murden Cove – Winslow 115 kV transmission line project, construction is expected to take place at the same time as the transmission line construction in 2027/28. We will keep the community informed as the project progresses.
