PSE is proposing a unique solution to improve reliability and modernize the grid on Bainbridge Island. To address the growth that’s straining the island’s distribution system and balance the values of the community to limit infrastructure, PSE is proposing to use a combination of battery storage and technology programs to postpone a new substation.
PSE is planning to install a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) to add capacity to the system. This 3.3 MW battery will do this by supplying electricity during peak periods when demand is high. Battery storage combined with other components in the solutions package will play a large part in meeting the communities demand for power.
We anticipate the battery will be online by 2025.
